We left a whole 5 minutes earlier than planned! We had to go via Amanda's place to drop off Hugo, but then it was up the M26 to the M25. The M25 was blocked part way because a car had broken down in one of the outside lanes. This took quite a while to clear. We were about ¼ of a mile from the front, so there must have been quite a queue behind us.
We got got again eventually and made it to Cobham Services. There were the usual motorway choices. The Colonel‘s finest sent us on our way.
We hadn't gone far when the huge black cloud decided to shed weight. It came down so hard that they was ½ inch of water on the road … and the traffic came to a stop again.
They have an interesting system here. There is a security hut and barrier at the entrance. The security guard checks you off on THE list and then gives you your room key (which only starts to work at 3pm).
We took in our bags and the queue for the single lift (!) was huge. The room itself is nice.
